5 Writing Prompts to Lift Girls Up

5 Writing Prompts to Lift Girls Up

APRIL 2ND, 2020

With schools closed across the country, many families are looking for fun ways to encourage girls to write at home. To make things a little easier for you, today we’re sharing five writing prompts designed to lift girls up.

We originally developed these prompts to complement our newly released I’m Me! Journal, but they’ll also work well with any piece of paper available. We recommend reading the prompt out loud to your budding author, making sure she understands the scene/challenge, and letting her loose with a pen or pencil. If she wants to illustrate what she’s written too, even better.

Brave

Imagine yourself on an island, exploring the top a dormant volcano. Suddenly you hear a rumbling noise and notice lava churning inside it! You need to get down from the volcano quickly. What do you do? How do you feel?

Inventive

You’re hiking with your family when you come to a creek. You look up and notice an injured puppy on the other side. You need to find a way to safely cross the creek with a grownup so you can help the puppy. What can you do to get across? You’re surrounded by trees, rocks, grass and shrubs, and you’ve got a pack with basic emergency supplies on your back.

Creative

Your local art museum has asked you to display your artwork at your very own exhibition. What kind of art will you make for the show? What will be special or different about your work?

Strong

Your family is doing an obstacle course as a fundraiser for a local school and you’ve been chosen to go through the course first. You scramble across a balance beam, jump through dangling hula hoops, and finally come to a giant wall. There’s a rope hanging down against the wall, and some rock climbing hand holds. How can you use your strength to get over the wall? What will you do when you reach the top?

Analytical

Your (or a friend’s) pet is acting funny. She/he’s been pacing back and forth near the food bowl and crying. What do you think might be wrong? What makes you think that that’s the problem? What could you do to test your hypothesis and see if you’re right?
We hope you find these prompts helpful.
