Instructions For I Am Confident, Brave & Beautiful: A Project Book

This is not your average book. This is an interactive experience, and you are the star! Guided prompts make exploring your own strength, creativity and bravery simple and straightforward. This activity book encourages you to think about your achievements and celebrate them in a creative way. It’s easy to complete, and once filled in you’ll have a keepsake you can enjoy for years to come.

How To Use This Book

This book is all about YOU, so be as creative as you want to be. You may choose to keep things simple, using pens, pencils, crayons or markers to write and illustrate your stories and decorate the pages. Or you may use photos, stickers, magazine clippings and other supplies to create your own mixed-media masterpiece. The idea is to explore yourself and your creativity, so it’s up to you. This is YOUR book.

This is a great opportunity to team up with grownups, too. Don’t hesitate to ask for help reading the prompts, coming up with ideas and writing out memories. It’s a chance to have fun together and will make the finished product even more special.

Project Pages

Each section of this book is designed to celebrate a different part of your personality. There are several themes: creativity, independence, inventiveness and more. Think of a time in your life when you did something that fits with each theme.

Take a moment to picture the memory; think through what you did and how it made you feel. Focus on the good feelings from that moment. Then write your story in the lined journal area (or have an adult write it). Finally, fill the frame with a drawing, photo or collage that illustrates the story. If you use glue, remember to leave the book open while it dries so the pages don’t stick together!

Finishing It Up

The last step is completing the cover! Once you’ve finished filling out the inside of the book, flip the dust jacket over and go crazy with your art supplies. The cover should reflect you, your heart and the stories you’ve included in the book.

Get a grownup to post a pic of your favorite spread or page on Instagram with the hashtag #hopscotchgirls, and share your book with family and friends.

I Am Brave: When have you been afraid to do something but did it anyway? What were you afraid of? How did you get through it? This might mean performing at your school talent show, talking to someone new or something else entirely.

I Am Curious: Describe a time when you were really curious about something. What did you do to learn more about it? This is all about your quest for answers! This might include doing some kind of experiment, finding books at the library, interviewing family members, etc.

I Am Inventive: When did you invent something, or come up with a totally new idea? Perhaps you created an imaginary world out of blocks, discovered a new, delicious combination of foods or had an idea for a brand-new product.

I Am Kind: Think of a time when you’ve shown kindness to someone. This could have been comforting an injured friend, sharing something special with someone or giving a pet a cuddle.

I Am Strong: You are stronger than you may realize! Describe a time when you felt strong or showed the world your strength. This might mean physical strength (like completing a difficult race or other physical challenge) or emotional strength (like getting through the loss of a friendship).

I Am Independent: When have you done something challenging on your own? Write it up! Perhaps you completed a project or task from start to finish on your own or took a class by yourself, etc.

I Am Clever: Describe a time when you’ve used your smarts to find a solution to a problem. Write it out! This might mean coming up with a creative fix for a leaning tower of building blocks, a broken toy or something else.

I Am Confident: When have you known, deep in your heart, that you could accomplish something challenging, like doing a dance routine from start to finish? What was the challenge? How did that feel?

I Am Creative: Describe an art project you made that was particularly creative and meaningful for you. This could be something written (such as a poem), a visual art piece (such a drawing or collage) or even a performance (such as a play). If it fits, go ahead and include it in this book!

I Am Beautiful: When have you shown your inner beauty? This is not about your outer appearance, but about your true self, inside your heart. This can be anything that showed the amazing person that is YOU, like dreaming big dreams for your future, making friends giggle or caring about the environment.
