Empowering Girls with Weekend Adventures & Summer Sports
AUGUST 11TH, 2020
School may be starting, but summer isn’t over yet! With long days and warm weather, now is the perfect time for outdoor fun. One of our favorite ways to build girls up is by getting them outside, and it turns out that spending time outdoors is a good way to mitigate Coronavirus risk too. Read on for some of our favorite weekend adventures and summer sports for girls!
Camping
We love camping for girls because it provides a natural opportunity for girls to challenge themselves (especially if they’re not used to spending long periods of time outdoors), and take on responsibility (helping to make camp, cook, tend a fire, etc.).
Logistics in the age of COVID-19 can be a little tricky, but not insurmountable. Our favorite approach is backpacking—it’s fun, adventurous and is almost always socially distanced. But if backpacking’s not your thing, consider car camping, or even popping a tent in your own back yard. Just be sure to think about crowds and bathroom logistics when choosing a place to camp.

Water Fun
With many public pools and beaches closed this year, enjoying the water is trickier than usual. But it’s not impossible! Swimming or kayaking/paddling can have a very freeing, soothing impact on a girl’s spirit, making it a great source of relief for these troubling times. One tip for finding less crowded beaches, lakes and swimming holes—look for spots that require a hike to get to. And don’t forget to be water safe!
Hiking
Hiking is still one of our favorite ways to build girls up outdoors because it’s so easy and accessible. We also love the fact that there’s pretty much nothing to do when hiking besides taking in the scenery and chatting. We’ve had some of our best, most in-depth conversations with kids on the trail. Hiking can be an incredible bonding experience.
We hope you’re able to find some time to get outside for one of these fun mini adventures!
