Simple Winter Craft: Folded Paper Icicles

This simple craft is perfect for snowy winter days. With just a handful of materials and a touch of creativity, your daughter can transform ordinary paper into shimmering icicles that will add a festive sparkle to any space. This is a great way to build an understanding of geometric shapes and fine motor skills. Gather your supplies and get crafting!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Pastel Colored Paper
Silver or White Glitter
Silver pipe cleaner or String
Scissors
Glue
Pencil
Ruler

How To Make Your Paper Icicles:

Step 1: Use your ruler, and pencil to make skinny long triangles along your colored paper. (You can use this as a template and make copies if you're making more than one icicle!) Drawing them edge to edge will make cutting them out easier. You will need two triangles for each icicle.

Step 2: Cut your long triangles out.

Step 3: Lay your two triangles out on top of each other on the wide ends, and glue them together on the wide ends.

Step 4: Place the glued triangle so one is pointing up and the other is pointing toward the right. Fold the triangle that is pointing up over the other triangle so it points down. Turn the triangles so that the lower triangle is now pointing up and fold it down.

Step 5: Turn and repeat the folding steps until you run out of paper.

Step 6: At this point, you should be able to stretch the folded paper. Fold the wider end of the icicles up. Your string will go through this small triangle to hang.

Step 7: Poke or cut a small hole in the triangle.

Step 8: To add glitter to your icicle, fold it down. Cover the top with glue. Pour some glitter on it and dump the extra into a container to save for later. Stretch it back out and the edges should be covered in glitter!
