How To Make Easter Eggs Art:
Step 1: Open up the plastic egg. Use a thumbtack to poke three holes in the egg for the legs. You will need three holes on each side of the egg. Make sure you are using the longer side of the easter egg.
Step 2: Cut your pipe cleaners at equal lengths so your legs will be the same length. You will need to cut them a little longer than the lengths of the legs so you can secure them on the inside of each hole. Ours were about an inch long.
Step 3: Insert your pipe cleaner legs into the holes, one at a time. Secure them on the inside of the egg by twisting the pipe cleaner so it won’t slip out of the hole.
Step 4: Bend and/or twist the pipe cleaners into the shape to make legs.
Step 5: Use a sharpie to draw eyes for the fireflies on the mailing label, then cut them out.
Step 6: Poke antennae holes in the short side of the egg.
Step 7: Cut another pipe cleaner to make antennas.
Step 8: Insert the antennas into the holes and bend and or twist the pipe cleaners into the shape you want.
Step 9: Assemble your firefly’s face by sticking the mailing label eyes on the egg and drawing a smile with a sharpie.
Step 10: Use the duct tape to make the wings. Draw a wing shape straight onto the duct tape.
Step 11: Pull out some tape with extra room to make the wings double-sided.
Step 12: Fold the tape in half and leave some sticky slack so you can attach it to the egg.
Step 13: Cut the wings out and attach them to the leg side of the egg.
Step 14: Insert the tea light and close the egg. Watch your firefly light up!
As you make your fireflies, discuss how upcycling is great for our Earth. Encourage your daughter to brainstorm other ways she can upcycle things as we get ready to celebrate our planet on Earth Day.
