Winter STEAM Craft: Magic Salt Watercolor Snowflake Painting
DECEMBER 6TH, 2023
The seasons are starting to change, which makes this the perfect time for a fun STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) craft! This magic salt watercolor project is a great way to talk about the changing seasons, and it gives your daughter a chance to see safe chemical reactions and absorption with her own eyes. Grab these common household materials and start crafting!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Cardstock or construction paper
- Glue
- Salt
- Watercolor paints
- Paintbrush
- Water
- Pencil
How To Make Your Magic Painting:
Step 1: Draw a snowflake or several on the card stalk with a marker or pencil. We also added dots to fill in the extra space.
Step 2: Trace over the snowflakes and dots you drew with glue.
Step 3: Before the glue dries, pour salt over the glue. Move the salt around on the paper to make sure the salt covers the design. Throw out the extra salt from your paper or save it to make another design.
Step 4: After the salt and glue dry, the watercolors will help the snowflakes magically appear. Start by dipping your paintbrush in the water, then a color. Touch the salt and the color will spread. Repeat for each color you want to use.
Let the watercolors dry, then hang your artwork in your home or gift it to a loved one!
