1) Get active
After the decadence of the holidays, many people are ready to turn over a new leaf and get healthy in January. We love the idea of making it a family affair. Possibilities include going for a walk, hike or run, or even going to the gym together if your children are older. When you get active as a family, not only does everyone reap the health benefits, but you also set a good example for kids to follow as they grow up.
2) Cook together
If you want to do more to get healthy, why not start cooking together? Kids love to cook and can often handle easy tasks like cutting soft vegetables on their own (with an age-appropriate knife of course).
If you want to start preparing healthier meals but are pressed for time, consider purchasing meal kits and encouraging older kids to cook dinner a couple of nights a week. Meal kits generally include all of the ingredients you need and feature simple recipes that make them well-suited to older kids (with supervision as needed).
3) Spend more time with family
If you’re hoping to spend more quality time with family in 2022, consider scheduling a recurring time for it. It's easy to get busy and forget to make time for family, but you're more likely to follow-through if it's on the clendar already. We like the idea of setting Sunday afternoons/dinners aside for family because many people are already home at that time, but pick any time that works for your family.
4) Find a family passion
If you’d like to spend more time with your family but struggle to find an activity that everyone enjoys, try pairing weekly family time with a challenge. The idea is to try a new activity at least once a month. Over time you will learn more about the kinds of activities that bring your family members together.
Take turns planning the family activity. A few ideas include playing a game, doing a puzzle, cooking together, going to an escape room, and spending time outdoors. You might be surprised to find how much you enjoy something you’ve never tried before.
We hope your 2022 is amazing!
